Resistance Gardening Tip | February 23, 2025

It's a little hairy out there, friends. I'm not going to lie. And sometimes it feels like nothing is happening despite all of our phone calls and emails and social media posts.

But that's just not true. Things are happening. And today's Resistance Gardening Tip is all about planning.

This coming week, on February 28, there is a nationwide resistance action, and we need to plan to join.

What's a "resistance action?"

It's any act of actively opposing or fighting against something, such as a policy, authority, or force, often involving nonviolent tactics like protests, boycotts, or civil disobedience, but can also include more direct forms of opposition depending on the context; essentially, it's the act of "resisting" against something or someone.

So mark your calendars!

On Friday, February 28 we are having a National Economic Blackout.

What does this mean?
It means we spend nothing. No money at all. For 24 hours.

This takes some advance planning on our parts. So, by the evening of February 27 we need to have:

  • groceries in the house for 24 hours

  • gas in our cars

  • bills paid that might be due on the 28th

  • packages mailed as needed

  • reschedule automatic payments

We will show our strength as a group by not spending money at all. No Zelle or Venmo. No online shopping. No food delivery. No movie rentals. No grocery shopping. Nothing. For 24 hours.

The greed of the billionaires fuels this coup, and their money comes straight from our pockets, so we are flexing – showing them our own power, too.

What can you do?

  • buy necessities at small businesses with CASH

  • barter or trade

  • share with neighbors

  • sit home and read a book

  • go to the library

  • take a walk

  • hang out with friends

Some people are taking it even farther and doing a complete Blackout:

  • no social media

  • no phone calls (except emergencies)

  • no email

  • calling in sick for work

  • no texting

  • logging out of all apps or turning off phones

Depriving tech companies of as much data as possible for a day is another way of adding to the Economic Blackout. Our data is their fuel, afterall.

So, make a plan for yourself. How will you participate in the Economic Blackout on Friday?

And for planning purposes, there are other actions scheduled in the next few months. So mark your calendars and be ready!

Happy Gardening! It’s good to be resisting with you!
